Last month, Sean Ater wrote about becoming a questioning disciple. But, before you can even listen and ask questions, you have to courageously approach the other. This is where a spirit of expectation comes in.
Approached the wrong way, we may actually perpetuate woundedness, foster a spirit of disorder or negativity, or unintentionally turn people into projects, leaving small group-goers saying or at least thinking, “My small group is bumming me out!”
The search for the elusive “silver bullet” that will transform our parish is very real. We tend to have a list of things we circle around over and over: New website! Social media! Evangelization committee! Hospitality ministers! One thing that is always at the top of our silver bullet list is … SMALL GROUPS!
Church, we have on our hands a unique evangelization moment! It’s likely in the days ahead that Notre Dame Cathedral will be the subject of work-time small talk, an informal discussion among friends, or Easter Sunday dinner conversation… In that moment, what will you say?
